You can order online, and pick up in store. I've ordered Christmas lights in the middle of summer (for the lake lot), and they were ready for pick up the very next day!

If you're looking for a hardware store that isn't the size of a walmart, try home hardware. They still had decent selection and the place was well-organized and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful.
