I visited the Rio theatre to find a very rare local Vancouver film being shown to the public for the first time. I've never visited the Rio Theatre before so I did not know what to expect. The Rio Theatre is conveniently located by Commercial and Broadway, so getting there is simple from the Skytrain, other public transit or even driving. The facility itself is very clean and has some really cool décor. The seats are spacious even for a larger and longer individual such as myself, and thankfully they have armrests that can be raised or lowered. Apart from the expensive popcorn, which all theatres have, they are licensed and allow alcohol to be consumed on the premises, although not in the actual theatre itself. The staff are all genuinely friendly unlike the larger, big box franchise theatres and the overall vibe is quite trendy. Though you won't be able to expect the 1080HD type quality or 4K that you would see in some of the upper high end theatres, the picture and sound quality is on par with the admission. The admission itself is generally inexpensive for such a cool place. The staff even invite you to hang out after with the showing and chill. The Rio Theatre is a must for those looking to step away from generic theatres and move into something more local and trendy.

There is something so quintessentially Vancouver about this place. I think it's impossible not to enjoy a movie here. It lacks a lot of the extra bells and whistles you get at Cineplex theatres but that's kind of the point. It allows a more intimate experience. Great choice of films and other entertainment too.
This is a real life slice of both the past and the future. Don't let it slip between your fingers.
This well maintained pleasantly kept location seems to have gone hipster and since putting the lighting of their outside sign on kickstarter they now seem able to keep it lit with new bulbs.
Location is clean, pleasant and worth visiting.
