Welcome to Ottawa’s only B & B hotel in the picturesque ByWard Market. This charming inn offers people traveling for business or pleasure fantastic room rates in a great location
I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. It has a great location, close to all the restaurants. Very nice, accommodating staff. Breakfast was pretty basic, but sufficient, and the afternoon tea (with cheese, cookies, crackers) was a nice touch. Rooms were very warm (it was cold outside). I would stay there again.
This is a quaint hotel right in Ottawa's byward market. Very friendly staff and great breakfast included. There is also a complimentary snacky thing in the afternoon. Room was very comfortable with a mini fridge and microwave. Reception is friendly.
I went to renew my US work visa at the US Embassy in Ottawa, which is at the end of Clarence street (the street that the hotel is on). I selected on price and proximity, and was quite frankly expecting somewhat of a lower-end experience. I was pleasantly surprised, as ByWard Blue is definitely not that! The room was clean, simple and had everything I needed (including a microwave). The bed was... more
Hotel is located on a quiet street, just off Byward Market. Peaceful and quiet stay. My rooms décor was stark, with cheap laminate flooring and a c@!%!y shelving unit. Room had an overall cheap look about it. Kitchenette was tiny but adequate. I arrived late on my check in date and next morning I discovered the toilet seat was broken at the hinge. I reported this to desk clerk that morning and... more
Close to the Embassy.
Convenient and functional. Very clean. Friendly staff.
Friendly hotel with simple rooms offering basic comfort and a good breakfast. Thin walls allow you to enjoy the experience of the other guests at no extra charge. An overall enjoyable stay with excellent dining and shopping in the neighbourhood. Beware of big city prices.
Did not expect hotel to be nice, considering the cheap rate. Room was clean and had a mini kitchen. Free breakfast and mid afternoon snack was real treat. Staff were nice and very down to earth. Though parking wasn't included parking garage next door was super cheap at $13.50 for 48 hours.
nice cosy hotel with very polite stuff. Small garage only, should be booked in advance if needed
enjoyed our stay very much for all the reasons rated asbove
I booked from hotwire great service & friendly staff but the room was so small I did not like it.
Stay at the hotel was good...rooms clean...if we needed anything the staff looked after you. Full breakfasts were a definite plus at this hotel. Even in the afternoon there was coffee, muffins, cookies. Always ask for a room at the back. Can get quite noisy at the front. Also, ask for a balcony. You are very close to Byward Market (as the name of the hotel states!). About a 10 minute walk to... more
Good location for walking everywhere and wonderful breakfasts but our room did not have a comfortable chair to sit in, our window the air conditioner was in was held together with packing tape, we could not open the window and the door to balcony had no screen so we had no fresh air. No issues at all with this hotel, it was great! Location was excellent, near the market and close to Parliment stuff. We were going to Bluesfest, which was about a 30 minute beautiful walk away from the hotel. There are several parking options nearby, with different pricing depending on where you park. Watch out if you park in the street though, the parking people are quick to write a ticket,... more
Loved our stay, continental breakfast was above and beyond a typical continental. Clean wood floors, steps from Byward Market. Under 1km to parliament hill. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.
I stay here often. Well managed unique hotel. Staff is professional and courteous. Great location
the rooms were adequate, the staff very friendly, breakfast very good and the location just great!
This is a boutique hotel, it is ok but you can hear people door close and when they walk down the hall. I would go back because of the area.
For the price the hotel is good. Parking is a concern. I had to park in the public lot due to being an early evening arrival. Others were able to secure parking before me. Public parking was close and reasonable but no in/out privileges plus the loss of security feeling. Location is excellent for restaurants and museums. Breakfast was good. The room was smallish.
Wonderful little hotel in the Byward Market area, easy walking to everything in downtown Ottawa. Hot breakfast included and having our own little balcony was wonderful for relaxing. Perfect for our stay. The room included a cute kitchenette with wonderful supplies.
Like most places in Ottawa it was overpriced and in need of some renovations, or at least a touch of paint. The bathroom looked like it was last done in 1990. Good location, but lacking overall. I would say it was a 2.5 star hotel.
Our favourite hotel in Ottawa. Breakfast was amazing! The only minus was the company next door. They party the whole night and it was loud. All the rest is great!
The location is perfect! If you're interested in a reasonably-priced, centrally-located, clean hotel with excellent service, this will fit the bill. The staff were incredibly helpful.
Great place to stay in Ottawa. Close to all the sites and restaurants. Walking distance to the parliament hill
We were impressed with the sincere desire of the staff, to make our 2-night stay as comfortable as possible... complimentary umbrellas for an unexpected shower...the convenience of a microwave & frig...fresh flowers on the table...a generous, satisfying breakfast different each morning...delightful afternoon tea & cookies from 3-5 p.m....Our room looked and smelled CLEAN. It was right downtown and within walking distance of many sights.
Not our first stay. So close to so many highlights of a visit to Ottawa and within walking distance of many good restaurants. Ample breakfast to start the day and pleasant helpful staff.
Very Good! Quiet and comfort. The room is small, but the facility is enough.
We really enjoy our staying at Byward Blue Inn. Friendly staff. Has a homy feeling.
A good clean comfortable place for a nights rest..
This place is dirty, small and old. They list it as a three star but it is really a one star hotel. There are many other three star hotels in Ottawa that are much nicer for the same price. The manager said he considered it a three star because it had an alarm clock and a balcony. Do yourself a favor and never stay at this hotel!

Bedbugs. Enough said. Don't stay here.... We checked our bed as soon as we got there and found 3-5 bedbugs right away and evidence of more. There are nicer, cleaner places to stay. Trust me, a little extra money is worth the peace of mind.
We had a wonderful visit. I read a few reviews that were completely opposite of our experience. Our room was perfect, we were in the "two room suite", which has a bed in each room. There is a large 6-person dining set in one bedroom (the room with the balcony) and a kitchenette in the other (the interior room). Two televisions. Perfect for kids in one room and us in the other. I spent four days at the Byward Blue with my 13 year old son. The hotel is friendly, clean, accommodating and brilliantly well located.
The hotel was lovely. Great location and clean comfortable room.
I've been to the Byward Blue Inn many times and will always return. The best place on the market and downtown Ottawa for the money spent. Love it here.
The Inn was very pleasant, great location, public parking right next door, and the included breakfast was very good.
Very pleasant experience. It was in a central location next to the byward market, bars, clubs, restaurants etc. as well as popular sites like The Parliament and Rideau Centre. All in waking distance. Price was a bit higher than others, but was made up for in location and service. The hotel staff behind the desk were always helpful and friendly. Mid-day snack was good. Can't speak to the... more
Moderate hotel, clean, close to Byward Market with lots of pubs, restaurants and activity. I was upgraded to a room with a queen bed, and my room faced the street (5th fllor) -- but I heard no street noise. The parking garage is very tight, but convenient.
The Byward Blue Inn was just a stopover of 2 nights before we started our trip to Montreal and Quebec City, but it turned out to be a great mini vacation. The Staff member upon check-in was super helpful, gave us an upgrade to a nicely renovated room with a view of parliament hill, and was very friendly in providing us with any information we needed. The inn was great but the heat was not working in my room, resulting in a move to the adjacent room at 1 a.m. Lobby was clean and service and breakfast was great.
This was a 'closed booking' choice for a 3 Star Hotel, as I've done many times in North America, other countries or Downtown Ottawa. But, this was not 3 Star Hotel, as advertised on Expedia! All the same, it was clean and comfortable, but 2 star is 2 star. Since then I have done 3 more 'closed booking' with Expedia, In Ottawa, with strong hesitation. So much so, that I have not made a booking... more
While Nonna & Papa kept Maddy, mom & dad went to Ottawa.
hotel was nice with a few exceptions, parking was disappointing not big enough for a large vehicle and cost was substancial considering, and vending machines were located in garage also elevators were out of service
Extrememly pleasant and accomodating staff. Extras that we were not previously aware of (complementary sauna, afternoon tea, full hot breakfast all included in the room price).
Decent place for the price and the location - B/C it is booked through third party they take a $150 deposit payment at the beginning of your stay, would have been nice to have a heads up on that one. Clean place but a tad antiquated - still works off keys instead of keycards.
This is a comfortable and quiet small hotel which is well located close to the restaurants in the Byward Market area and close to downtown Ottawa. The staff are friendly and the hotel has a homey atmosphere with a complimentary tea served in the lobby in the afternoons for guests. The rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed with a work space desk and a flat screen television plus a kitchenette.
For the right traveler, this property can work right. Perfect location in the heart of Byward, home to great dining choices and shopping. Two blocks from the U.S. embassy and parks. Parking overnight next door was reasonable but very convenient. The Inn is very quaint and clean. Brakfast very good; nice music playing. Beautiful paintings. Lovely atmosphere.

I didnt like the drunk bar people screaming at 3:30 in the morning.
I think the price of 150 night wS a little pricey.
I got a special price from hotwire. After tax around 80 per night. Very Reasonable and worthy.
They have daily compliment purified water, internet and sauna; breakfast buffet (quite nice, cereal, milk, coffee, tea, egg, bacon/sausage, orange juice, yongurt, bread, muffin fruits(melons) etc) 。 They also have complimentary afternoon tea/coffee, cookie, cheese, fruits.

the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. the hotel was very clean and comfortable and in an ideal location.
The hotel had an excellent location within walking distance of most of Ottawa's main attractions. The staff were very friendly and helpful with a good knowledge of local restaurants etc
Was just were planning to stay in Ottawa as a resting spot on our way to Quebec City. This hotel changed our plans and we spent more time exploring the city. Everything was perfect here from the check in to the beautiful 6th floor room with a balcony to the great location. We got this hotel on Hotwire so paid substantially less than regular rate but I think the regular rate is a great deal.
Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, complimentary afternoon tea and breakfast, great location.
Great location, right downtown, walking distance to many restaurants and bars. Comfortable bed, quality bedlinen.
\n\n
Breakfast was so-so. They need to replace the thin white curtains with dark, thick ones because the room was flooded with light at 6 AM. Bathroom countertop was old and shabby. A/C unit and bathroom vent fan very noisy.
Location - easy access to Byward precinct and only a short walk to the City, Parliament Hill, museums and galleries.

Some of the persons at the reception spoke french. Really appreciated. Helped us with dinner reservation to a good restaurant. Place very clean and nice at reasonable price and with a perfect location in Ottawa, in the ByWard, near all we wanted to see. Brearkfest included was good too.

Outstanding service, location, and price. I booked it through hotwire for about $80, but full price is still a decent bargain. My only complaint is that the breakfast was terrible. Called them about it 5 days later only to get responses from they may have been thrown out to i left them somewhere else. Very frustrating and uprofessional. I work as a flight attendant and have stayed in... more
My wife and I spent a warm July weekend here in 2012. The hotel is less than a block from the market area and tons of restaurants. Parking is not a problem. There are a few spaces available at the hotel and there is a public parking garage a couple doors down the street.
It is an easy walk to...

We took a chance on Hotwire unnamed hotels and were rewarded with this absolute gem. The location is perfect--within a block or so of great restaurants and the Byward Market itself, but quiet. Front desk staff were excellent, polite and knowledgeable. The room was spotless, bed was comfortable, equipped with a fridge, microwave, utensils, plates, and glass wine glasses! There... more
For a reasonable price ( Ottawa hotels are rather expensive we found ), we had a spacious room, with clean washroom facilities, good bed, appropriate kitchen appliances ( microwave, kettle ) and utensils. A small balcony with table and chairs overlooking gardens towards the back of the building was very useful. The location is superb : right beside the Byward... more
This is the second time I've stayed here and this experience was even better. Not sure why but we obtained their "suite" room in the front of the hotel-maybe because we booked so early. Nice view from the roof/walk out-plus if you're a smoker- which I am-you may smoke out on the balconies. The beds were quite comfortable with my... more
Older hotel. Comfortable room. Liked the wood floor, balcony and kitchenette with small refrigerator and microwave. Location is in a quiet, residential section of Clarence Street but is only a block away from many pubs, diners and other shops. Twenty minute or less walk to Parliament Hill and National Gallery. Limited parking available at the hotel, but public garage 1/2 block west with... more
We stayed here for Canada Day 2012 and you couldn't ask for a better location!! I was close to everything but far enough away that you could enjoy the peace and quiet on the balcony.
We stayed in room # 66 which obviously has been up-graded. It was spacious and clean with a lovely view. The bed was very comfortable,...

This is a great boutique hotel that is in a fantastic location.Short distance to parliament hill, rideau canal, and byward market. Its clean and quaint - no frills but definitely a great stay in Ottawa city. The breakfast is great offering a good variety of cereals, eggs, toast, muffins etc... I'd definitely recommend this place for a short stay at... more
The only thing that is good about this place is the location....its dirty, smelly, and the breakfast sucked....i actually got into trouble from a staff by reaching into the little fridge for a yoguart...we stayed 4 nights...the room was tiny and the layers of dust told me it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. stay away from this place.
I love this place! Close to the Byward Market area but a little bit east on a one way street, so it's quiet. Basic breakfast: cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, juice. My room was a single queen bed with a fridge and microwave, table, TV and desk. No radio. Free wireless access. My only complaint is that the wireless... more
This hotel reminded us of some of the nicer Pensions we stayed in France and Italy. Staff is kind, friendly and very helpful. The location is half a block from the restaurants, bars, and shops of By Ward Market, and just a 15 minute walk to the National Art Gallery, the National Art Center, the canal. We parked in the City Garage next door, and never had to use the car for three days. We... more
my wife and i stayed four nights for a weekend wedding ,found the downstairs breakfast which was nicely included ,lounging area covienant when we had some of our family meet for tea and coffee ,good access to byward market and parliament area, friendly front desk overall good.
Half a block from the main area of Byward market, friendly staff. I like the laminated floors rather than carpeted in other hotels, the bed was fine, the furnishing was decent, the amenities were good, the TV wasn't HD (I don't think) but I'm not a tv-watcher, anyway.
An excellent choice for a budget hotel. The only down side I...

My usual hotel was sold out so I stayed here for a few days while at a convention in the new convention centre. It was easy walking distance to the centre, to the Rideau Mall and to the Parliament buildings and that was my favourite part.
My room was rather scuffed, from the door frame to the laminate floor. The...

The Byward Blue Inn is located in the ByWard Market area of Ottawa. It's location, on a quiet, residential street is perfect. It's convenient to the Market area and downtown Ottawa for getting around but it's just far enough off the main street area that sounds from the street don't disturb at night. The bed was very comfortable and supportive.... more
I stayed in other hotels in Ottawa as well but this hotel is best of all. especially comfortable room with best breakfast included and also eve snacks. It is walkable distance to the mall and consulates as well
I'll start by saying that I would recommend the ByWard Blue Inn to anyone visiting Ottawa.
The location could hardly have been any better (we only had to take two cab rides for our 4 day stay - from the Via Rail station and back). While staying at the hotel, you are within walking distance of all of the best...

Great location, very clean, breakfast and tea time were lovely! I didn't want to leave this review for fear of making the Inn too popular :) Noise levels were a little high, but could be due to proximity to the elevator.
What a terrific, quaint, affordable, and convenient place to stay in Ottawa. While not luxurious by the 4 & 5 Star standards it is CLEAN and COMFORTABLE and exceeds any 3 star place I've stayed at before. The room had everything one could ask for (Fridge, Microwave, Coffee pot, television, an extremely comfortable bed, free internet access and a hot... more
Staff were very pleasant and helpful. I liked my room except I found the floor a bit dirty... I was wearing socks& when I pit my feet up on the white bed some nasty dirt and the odd hair came off. Ew. The breakfast wasn't great, but it was a treat to have free coffee& snacks at their afternoon tea... more
I completely agree with Bill M's review. The place is very clean and comfortable. I also did the blind bargain from Expedia. We have a 2 twin-beds room. The beds are European sizes. They are not suitable for big size people, we are small size people so that's not a problem. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. It could... more
This lovely Inn is so charming with it's Old World charm! Brilliant beautiful paintings, everywhere you look. We arrived at 3 PM and were told to return at 4 PM which we did. We checked in and the room they gave us had not been cleaned and the bed was not made. We were told there were no other rooms and that they would send up the housekeeper right away. We waited an hour and no one showed up. We went back to the front desk and were assigned another room. It was a very disappointing beginning to our... more
Very nice, excellent staff and nice atmosphire, the only problem I did have was my car was damaged in the parking lot.
This is an excellent location, close to Byward Market, great restaurants and parlliament. There is parking under the Inn which is a help.
this was an unpretentious comfortable place to stay, well located and excellent value rough orbits, friendly homey feel. Free continental breakfast. Not worth the extra five bucks for the warm breakfast, generally canned eggs and soggy bacon, the rooms were well serviced, good cable tv, hot strong showers, good towels. Free hotel wide wifi. All in all an excellent place to stay. No complaints.
For a city location, it's great - right next to the Byward Market, and an easy walk to Parliament Hill.Room is okay, but a little small. Breakfast is very basic, and they charge an extra $5 for hot stuff. Afternoon snacks are nice.My 3 stars is because it's pretty basic, but for the price in the city, it's fine.
Good Hotel arrived late and night clerk was not at front desk waited 15 minutes to get in hotel locked. The room were dated very small TV beds were comfortable. hardwood floors were different clean rooms. the parking in the hotel garage was limited to 8 spots and very narrow scrapped the passangers side of car scrapped car if you have a big vehicle park next door.
Excellent value for the money.
This is an older hotel that has been renovated. The rooms were clean, quiet and very roomy. From the balcony you could look at Parliment Hill. The only drawback was the location. One side of the street was a neighborhood where you would not walk at nite. There were homeless people sleeping under a tree across the street.
very nice stay. The breakfast buffet (no extra cost) is really nice. Includes Egg, Yogurt, Bread, Bagels and on Sundays tasty croissants.it was clean, quiet. it's not a 4 star hotel (e.g. don't expect a 30" TV) but it is a very good deal for what you pay.
Great Location. Very courteous and helpful staff. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Lots of things to do in the immediate area: museums, mall, canal, river, parks etc. Happened to be there during the Jazz festival.
Very good value for money, excellent location with pleasant staff.
The Byward Blue is located near the center of the Byward Market area of Ottawa and in walking distance to Parliament, museums and lots of restaurants and nightlife. My room was clean and comfortable. The decor is very simple but the staff is friendly and goes out of their way to answer questions. Free breakfast was fine. All in all a good value in a great location.
Overall a good place if you only care about a good location and cozy bed to sleep in. Pros:1) Great location-Byward Market2) Very close to the hotels, pubs and US Embassy3) Free wireless access4) Free breakfast in the morning and tea in the afternoon5) Friendly staff6) Free local calls, and for long distance in any location North America they can provide you cheap calling cards for A Dollar... more
It was a good stay. Hotel was very clean and service was good. Location is perfect - everything is within walking distance (all the 100+ restaurants). Excellent location in downtown area. The best was the balcony in the Hotel. It's really awesome. They provide the complementary breakfast as well as evening snacks. Staffs are very friendly and helpful.
Half a block from the heart of the Byward Market the Inn's location is exceptional and reminded us of small hotels in Italy and France. The Street-life hopped with the hottest restaurants, patios, decks, Pubs, horse-drawn buggies -- and the City's best commercial Art gallery (as well as its best croissants) half a block from our door! The staff at the Inn was very helpful -- but the owner needs... more
