A true food emporium -- there must be close to 30 olive oils to choose from, for instance, making this épicerie a special spot. For one thing, it's a step back in time, dating to 1871 (it claims to be the oldest grocery store in North America). As engagingly, it maintains an international selection of foods whose expanse is usually found only in shops 20 times its size.

In business since 1871, this atmospheric, old-fashioned shop in an early-1800s building in the lower town claims to be the oldest grocery store in North America. The courteous, knowledgeable servers will be happy to answer your questions about the various delicacies on sale, such as Québecois cheese and pâté of Arctic caribou with mushrooms. Don't feel self-conscious about prolonged browsing:... more

It's worth a trip to J.A. Moisan to take a step back in time. You'll have to imagine it a bit, as this is a busy, operating store, and not a museum. It's well kept, and offers a good variety of food stuffs. There are better places to get certain items (fromageries, etc.) but you won't de disappointed.
As to beer there are 6 cooler doors worth and 1 section with warm, larger bottles on 4... more

This shop is well located in the middle of Quebec City near all the main attractions. This shop has better selection of speciality grocery products than it has of beers. Staffs are not really knowledgeable and you won’t find anything remotely out of the ordinary. I still think people should stop by for the general store and antique feel but not for the beer in particular.

Oldest grocery store in North America- 'nuff said.

It is quaint, cute, and sells adorable knick knack things. Cheeses, mustard spreads, jelly/jam, wine/beer, chocolates, maple syrup, etc. Are things a tad bit overpriced?? Yes, but you are walking in a piece of history so buy 1 little thing just to say you did and keep it moving.

Cette épicerie est magnifique ! Un vrai voyage historique dans un décor envoûtant ...... le temps de faire son épicerie, ou le temps d'une simple visite. Bref, c'est mon avis et je le partage !

Step into the Maison Jean-Alfred Moisan in Upper Town to find the oldest grocery store in North America. Old melodies, playing in the background, will take you back in time. The ancient interiors go back to the 18th century. Besides being a grocery store, it also functions as a museum, as an antique shop and even a wine and liquor store!
