Not professional

I had a dog Charlie who was 3 years old. He is now dead, I chose to put him down after failed treatments.

I dealt with 3 vets, 2 of them doctors. 1 month of treatments, IV, tests, medicines, foods. I showed them the food and treats he ate and asked excessively about diet.

I spent 4200$ on treatment for him over that month.

The day after I put him down, I saw a documentary on CBC Marketwatch saying chicken jerky treats are related to kidney failure in dogs, and its killing thousands of dogs every year. I checked online and its crazy the amount of information on this. The FDA website has been issuing warning regularly to VETs and consumers for over 5 years now:
www.fda.gov/animalveterinary/newseven...
www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupda...

I asked the vet if they were aware that jerky treats have been linked to this type of issue (all the exact symptoms without exception) and they both said NO they never heard of that.

I dont know if the treats were the cause or not but the case is simple. They didnt even know it was a possibility, therefore the treatments i put my dog through during his last month on Earth was not based on any current information. Which means they did not do their due diligence, and they do not stay up to date with at least the FDA website.

And on top of that, 2 of them literally recommended I give him the treats when I showed them the bag. Which is the exact brand in the warnings on the FDA website.

Its my fault for buying the treats. My choice to choose that vet. My choice of dog treats, my choice to trust this vet. Would I recommend them? Never in a million years. They should be educating us, not us educating them at the expense of a beautiful animals life.

Nice people but they totally missed this by a mile and I feel it was a bad consultation (several) mis treatment, mis diagnosis, and they wont refund any money at all.

unfeeling vets

I would not recommend this animal hospital to anyone. Over the years, I have taken my animals to different vets, and all of them could be ranked at very good to excellent, except for this one.

My experience was in the fall of 2003, and my animal was not properly diagnosed and the vets i saw were unfeeling, incomptent and officious. They also were inaccurate about the services they offered (they insisted that my animal be boarded to get medication every 2 hours around the clock. I wanted to do this myself, and they insisted I leave the animal. When I arrived back the next morning,, medication had NOT been administered through the night, and as a result. my animal lost her eye. I removed the animal from the vet, and administered the medicine myself every 2 hours for the next 3 days, but it was too late. When I returned, all the vets wanted to do was to operate to remove the eye.

My cat was finally found to have cancer (they finally noticed when I brought the animal in and she was bleeding from her throat... she had tumors all down her throat., something none of the vets noticed, despite having appointments sometimes as often as weekly over 3 months), and all the other illnesses were stemming from that. Bottom line, the diagnosis was missed, treatment was given for all sorts of other conditions, without any interest of what the underlying condition was, and my cat suffered greatly, despite my best efforts. I would ask when we could could see some improvement, and each time, when there wasn't an improvement, or even a deterioration of my cat's condition, they would just say not to worry, everything was ok. I am so sorry that I caused my animal needless pain by trusting this veterinary hospital... I will bear the guilt for that forever.
