Not a very good experience for a pregnant mama..

I’m a chronic pain sufferer and decided to do prenatal yoga to help with my pregnancy discomforts. When I booked the class the one factor that was important to me was the flexibility to attend other prenatal classes at their facility when I have a bad pain day. I spoke to the gentleman in detail about this and he assured me this wouldn’t be a problem. At the time of booking there was a prenatal class scheduled on Tuesday’s at 4:30pm, Wednesday at 5:30pm and again at 7pm.

On my first day of class we were asked to “open our minds and be flexible” to merging the 5:30pm and 7pm classes together to start at 6pm so the instructor could get home on time to put her daughter to bed (?!) Myself and many others voiced a concern about this (because it’s not what we paid for) but the class still changed, and as a result I had to drop out of the ‘wellness’ component which happened after the yoga class. Quite a few of us were upset about this, remember, we scheduled this around work and home life.. the instructor does this for a living! I struggled in classes because by 7pm my body has had enough and with the pregnancy aggravating old injuries it was defeating the purpose of me signing up for the class to begin with. I did voice concerns and areas that I needed more help with, but I got a sense that the instructor didn’t know much about chronic pain nor did she provide any insight as to what I could do. In fact, I would often regret saying anything in class because her responses were very belittling. After classes I would be in so much pain I could barely drive home. I kept going for the sake of staying active and thinking it would help with my labor. In the end I had to forfeit a few classes, but Blue Skies did credit back some of the classes that I out towards items in their store.

Long story short, I think Blue Skies Yoga has a great facility, eco store, and program. However, if you suffer from chronic pain or fibromyalgia I would not recommend Blue Skies. The schedule is inconsistent, the instructors don’t take the time to know you and there is a lack of support/understanding for chronic pain suffers.
